CLIMATE CHANGE AND RESILIENCE BUILDING

CLIMATE CHANGE AND RESILIENCE BUILDING

Climate change is the defining development challenge of our era, threatening to reverse hard-won development gains and deepening poverty and inequality across Southern and East Africa. RMI provides climate resilience research, M&E, and advisory services for UNDP, UNEP, GIZ, the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Adaptation Fund, and bilateral donors committed to climate adaptation and mitigation programming.

Southern and East Africa is among the most climate-vulnerable regions in the world. Erratic and declining rainfall, more frequent and severe droughts and floods, rising temperatures, and increasing weather unpredictability are threatening food production, water availability, health outcomes, and economic stability. Communities that already face poverty and social exclusion are disproportionately affected. Climate adaptation and resilience building programmes seek to strengthen the capacity of communities, institutions, and ecosystems to absorb climate shocks and adapt to changing conditions.

RMI provides a comprehensive suite of consulting services to the full range of development actors operating in this sector:

  • Community resilience assessments (CoBRA and RIMA frameworks)
  • Climate vulnerability and capacity assessments (CVCA)
  • Climate-smart agriculture adoption surveys
  • Disaster risk assessment and early warning system evaluations
  • Ecosystem restoration programme evaluations
  • Green Climate Fund programme evaluations
  • Carbon sequestration and REDD+ monitoring studies
  • Renewable energy access programme evaluations
  • Climate knowledge, attitude, and practice surveys
  • Shock-responsive social protection assessments
  • Adaptation Fund project evaluations
