Health and nutrition are fundamental dimensions of human capability and central to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 2: Zero Hunger; SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being). RMI delivers rigorous health and nutrition research, surveys, monitoring, and evaluation services for WHO, UNICEF, WFP, UNFPA, bilateral donors, Ministries of Health, and INGOs across the region.
Southern and East Africa carries a disproportionate burden of communicable disease (HIV, tuberculosis, malaria), non-communicable disease, and nutritional deficiencies — including stunting, wasting, anaemia, and micronutrient deficiency. Maternal and child mortality remain elevated above global targets, and health system capacity — in workforce, supply chain, financing, and governance — is insufficient to meet population needs. Evidence-based programme design and rigorous M&E are essential to directing limited health resources toward the highest-impact interventions.
